blogposts about 44:
Paul McMahon on Art Viewer: http://artviewer.org/paul-mcmahon-at-321-gallery/ This is excellent work by a site which narrowcasts Daniel Terna’s sumptuous photography but also presents vertically what was horizontal, which was cool and they also curated the works I tink, rather nicely.
Paul McMahon mentioned on Art F City:

MIRACLES:
I’ve lived at 6 Hillcrest Ave in Woodstock since All Saints Day 1996. The building was for sale and there were some people who want it and wanted all of us who live here now to leave. It was making me sad to think of leaving. My girls who are twelve came here from the hospital and we like it here. I meditated in the morning and fervently wished that our lives could continue on more or less just the same because we have a good life here. I was $100,000 short of being able to buy it myself. I sent out a call to my list that I wanted them to pledge to buy art or music or other things from me and if I got $100,000 worth of pledges I would hold them to it and buy the house. I watched in awe as my friends started sending pledges. I felt so loved. After an hour or two I was up to a couplathree thousand in pledges and an old friend emailed, “You need $100,000 to buy your house? I can front that.” And she meant it and we’re doing it and my prayer is answered to the letter, because things can now go on just the same as they were going as it appears that we can stay and except for the beautiful gift nothing much really changes.
So I say thank you and thank you and thank you and thank you great mysterious principle of causality, for this wonderful and beautiful universe which appears and disappears.

Big Fun at BSP last Thursday June 27 opening for Mike and Ruthy and Paleface. Linda Mary Montano, as usual, was a better ‘me’ than me and Stanton Warren (Venture Lift) proved a cool hand on the baby guitar.
Played the night before June 26@62 Warren St; Carriage Trade (gallery) in NYC, Linda skyped in and we made a pop-up art show of cheap art works from $2-22 of mine, bff babymama, both daughters and friend Lindsey Jardine and hung with John Baldessari at Jack Goldstein show at the Jewish Museum.
AWESOME GIGS AT COSM DECEMBER 18 AND MARCH 11
I’ve known Alex and Allyson most of my life and COSM is just mindboggling. There was a powerful and at times mischievous spirit in the room. I liked it, will do it again March 11. I am so happy when I get a chance to sing for you.

OMG! I recently noticed that the video my pal E Winter put up for ARAPAHO MAIDEN was picked up and is being hosted online by NME, Britain’s venerable music industry rag. Whoever did it THANKS! There’s more I haven’t looked at yet. ENJOY! I am.

FINALLY! 40 years after they began a three year run in Cambridge Massachusetts, the story of an hitherto unknown shoestring operation that could be regarded as the nursery of the Pictures Generation as it suckled contentedly on the ample breast of Conceptual and Performance Art. Published by Churner and Churner on the occasion of an exhibition of the same name from July 2012. The 72 page black and white book is available from them for $8. Edited by Ian Wallace, Paul McMahon’s text is supplemented by visuals from the shows, many courtesy of the Project Inc. Archive at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard.

The Great SHAMSI RUHE
bring it on down
This song was recorded by Dean Jones and Warren Perrins sometime around 1997 at No Parking Studios in Rosendale. Doug Ruhe set it up and paid for it and Jamal Ruhe produced it. It features great Rosendale musicians Terry Hampton on drums and Kenny McGloin on lead guitar. Pooj Ruhe is on bass I think. I am on rhythm guitar and backup vocal. A few years later Shamsi was talking with a record company and needed to play them the recording and my cassette was the only one she could find. I was so broke I couldn’t make a copy. Later I found out the original master tape was lost. No one had another copy and it was impossible to retrieve mine from the record company. Only recently did I finally find another cassette copy of this beautiful performance of my song. I’m thankful to Doug Ruhe and the whole Ruhe family for their support over these many years. It has mattered a great deal to me.
THE MOTHERSHIP IS OUT OF COMMISSION AT THIS TIME. PAUL MCMAHON HAS KICKED HIMSELF UPSTAIRS AND IS WORKING ON ALL THESE OTHER PROJECTS. WOODSTOCK IS PICKING UP THE SLACK. IF YOU HAVE A MOTHERSHIP AND ARE LOOKING FOR A NICE HOME FOR IT I’LL TELL YOU WHO TO CALL <3

Meet and Greet at the Mothership at 8 pm Monday 9/12.
Calvin Pompana, a Dakota man from Winnipeg who is a Sundance Chief will be here. This wonderful elder held a sacred ceremony at Bella Salerno’s on Tuesday night 9/6 that really helped me out of my Irene hangover blues. He will speak about the Unity Ride he is a big part of. A group of 38 Canadian Native riders is headed in our direction this fall. They plan to ride to the UN to commemorate the largest mass execution in American History when 38 Santee Sioux men were hanged in Mancata, MN in 1862. They will have 7 wild horses with them.

Just listened to a collection Wharton Tiers has EQ’d of A BAND recordings from 78/79, including a session at 135 Grand St. produced by Mark Bingham and several live performances in clubs. Could an A BAND album finally be in the works after all these years?

Floating on cloud of bliss after playing at Ananda Ashram, Panini Annex, Thursday night 8/18/11 for the Yoga Teachers Training class. A big old goodvibe there.
Woodstock & Rosendale, Last Weekend
by Sparrow July 26, 2011
My friend Charlie comes up from New Jersey to visit me every summer, and we go on a music tour of Ulster County. Last Friday we saw Paul McMahon play at the Rosendale Café. His tickling puns, leaps of faith, double entendres, visionary cries, self-deprecating asides, avowals of love — plus fine fingerpicking — spun the late-night crowd.
2 bumperstickers of mine were licensed by Warner Bros. for Zach Galifianakis’ bedroom wall in THE HANGOVER PART 2!
The archives of my series of shows at Project Inc., Cambridge, MA; 1972-75 were acquired by the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard Collage in 2010.
Matt Mullican wall in INDIAN SUMMER, September 1974; a group show with James Welling, David Salle, Robert C. Morgan and Paul McMahon. Preceding Artists Space’s PICTURES show by 3 years it was the first group exhibition to announce the emergence of a new sensibility.
OVER 30 PIECES OF MINE SHOWN AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM
As an early member of the group of postconceptual artists connected with CalArts, NSCAD and Hallwalls, I dropped out of the art scene sometime in the 80s and was heard from only sporadically until my inclusion in the Metropolitan’s 2009 survey of THE PICTURES GENERATION 1974-1984.
